Dray Publishing identified a consumer need for the performance based medium
known as audiobooks. The market place lacks a reviewing system that deals
with audiobooks:
- Think back to the last movie you saw that was based on a best
selling book. I know many of these movies fell well short of the
quality of the original book. This is an excellent example of how a
performance medium can negatively impact the original best selling book.
- Audiobooks are a performance medium. They take the original
content produced by the author and present it to the consumer utilizing a
performer sometimes called an audiobook reader also referred to as an
audiobook narrator.
- A consumer cannot simply refer to a bestsellers list of books to
determine whether or not an audio book is a good buy. These lists do
not take into account the key role an audiobook reader plays in the quality
of the end product. A well written book can be extremely poor as an
audiobook.
